What the wall is actually holding
A retaining wall answers a specific problem, and the problem decides the design. Some walls terrace a slope that is eroding away, breaking it into level steps so water and soil stop sliding downhill. Others raise a patio to a usable level, or turn a bank into a run of planters.
Cloverleaf builds all of these as steps, seat walls, terraced walls, raised patios and planters, and has since 1999. The first question is never the material. It is what the ground is doing that made a wall necessary in the first place.

Block, limestone, outcropping, granite, or timber
Five materials cover the range: concrete block for a clean, consistent face; natural limestone for a quarried, layered look; outcropping stone set to look as though it broke through the slope on its own; granite boulders for a heavier, more rustic wall; and landscape timbers where a lower budget or a simpler run is the goal.
Each reads differently once it is finished, and each behaves differently while it is being built. Cloverleaf's crews pick the material to match both the look a customer wants and the load the wall actually has to carry.
Chapter 03
A wall that doubles as a seat
One of the most common requests is a wall built to seat height around an outdoor entertaining area, so the wall itself becomes the bench. The City Center planter pictured here is exactly that: a commercial wall built at seat height that also screens a bike rack behind it and blends tan and gray block to tie into the concrete and brick already on site.
That same seat-height thinking carries into residential jobs. A terraced wall stopping erosion on a slope does not have to look purely functional. Built right, it becomes a place to sit as much as a structure holding a bank in place.
